Amersham has been part of the Gilberts patch from the start. Percy Gilbert founded the business just up the Chess valley in Chesham in 1956 with a single car, and Amersham was one of the first places our drivers went.
Booking a taxi looked very different then. Calls came into the family office on Bellingdon Road, and Barbara would flag down a passing driver to hand out each job. Radios in the cars changed everything, and today jobs go straight to in-car tablets while most customers book in the Gilberts app.
From the Old Town to Amersham-on-the-Hill and the station, we've been taking Amersham people home, to work and to the airport for 70 years. Percy's son Ron built the business up, Chris and Tracey grew it into the firm it is today, and the fourth generation of the family now runs it.
