Our Chesham story

Born in Chesham in 1956

Gilberts started here. Percy Gilbert founded the business in Chesham in 1956 with a single car, and for years the family ran it from an office on Bellingdon Road.

Booking a taxi looked very different then. Calls came into the office, and Barbara would flag down a driver passing on Bellingdon Road to hand out each job. Radios in the cars changed everything, and today jobs go straight to in-car tablets while most customers book in the Gilberts app.

Percy's son Ron built the business up, Chris and Tracey grew it into the firm it is today, and the fourth generation of the family now runs it. Seventy years on, we're still a local family business — and when you ring us, you still speak to local people.
